Strong Systems

 

Trustees govern a complicated system that serves over 70,000 students, 12,000 staff, and has a $1.5 billion budget. Transparency, financial oversight, and leadership are essential responsibilities that I take very seriously.

 

Accomplishments

  • Unanimously elected by the Board of Trustees to serve as Board Secretary in January 2021

  • Relentless advocate for truth and transparency on the school board

  • Fought for transparent and fair board agenda development processes

  • Advocated dozens of board agenda items that otherwise would never have made it to the public—including essential areas planning, equity report, special education audit, police key performance indicators, and updates on mental health contracts.

  • Brought to light an equity report that would help guide future facilities use in AISD

  • Fought for and passed greater accountability for special education contracts


Looking Ahead

  1. Hire a superintendent that will expertly and compassionately run our beloved school district

  2. Develop and pass a vision for the AISD’s many unused properties—including revenue, affordable housing, and childcare goals

  3. Pass a balanced budget

  4. Review central office staffing

  5. Ensure board powers stay with the board

  6. Ensure internal audits return to previous robust levels

  7. Support a third party equity audit

  8. Expand programs that have a high return on investment
